The petroleum industry includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The largest volume products of the industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol). Petroleum (oil) is also the raw material for many chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, and plastics. The industry is usually divided into three major components: upstream, midstream and downstream. Midstream operations are usually included in the downstream category.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
This is my house. (Esta é minha casa). That is Peter’s house and this is mine.
No exemplo citado acima, “my” vem acompanhado do substantivo “house”.

PREFACE
This handbook has been compiled for readers with an interest in the oil and gas industry. It is an overview of the main processes and equipment. When we searched for a suitable introduction to be used for new engineers, I discovered that much of the equipment is described in standards, equipment manuals and project documentation. Little material was found to quickly give the reader an overview of the entire oil and gas industry, while still preserving enough detail to let the engineer have an appreciation of the main characteristics and design issues.
