What is iCommunicator? iCommunicator is a software

program and tool that provides an interactive communication solution for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and others who experience communication challenges.

History of Deafness in the U.S.

In 2000, there was an approximate deaf population of 28 million people

12 million of that population mostly leave the school system with less than a 6th grade reading level

Of the 12 million, 8 million legally have a significant hearing loss and 4 million are entirely deaf

It’s Purpose

iCommunicator’s main goal is to translate speech to a format that the deaf can read

This software’s output focuses on text and sign language

How it Works

The parent or teacher speaks into a microphone or headset

The speech is then recognized by the software and output to the deaf person’s computer in either text and/or sign language

The user can type to respond back using the computerized voice

Main Features

iCommunicator recognizes all letters and over 30,000 words displayable as signs

The software’s database includes over 9,000 sign language video clips that are synchronized with the delivery of computerized voice

Over 250,000 English words are recognized for text output

Other Features

The user can find direct dictionary, thesaurus, and internet sources for any words presented in text through the software

Fully customizable including text size, signing speed, spoken voice change, etc.

Voice output can also be sent to hearing aids wirelessly
