A hurricane is a tropical storm with heavy rain, gale force winds and even snow.

How do hurricanes form?

A hurricane begins over an ocean, about 50 to 100 kilometres north or south of the equator. It forms when a tropical storms moves over an area of rising warm air. The water must be 30 or more degrees.

How to stay safe in a hurricane:1. Stay away from windows and doors2. Have safety equipment.3. Make sure flashlights are within

reach4. Stay away from rising water

Do not do this in a hurricane!
