How to make an Art Doll

Step 1•Make a several simple designs for the torso using scrap paper

•Be sure to make the neck large/thick so it can support the head when stuffed

•This will be your pattern

Step 2•Select one design to cut out leaving a seam allowance

•This is your pattern

Step 3•Cut a piece of fabric twice as big as the pattern•DO NOT waste fabric•DO NOT cut from the middle of a large piece of fabric

Step 4• Fold fabric and

position pattern in center

• Pin with just a few pins

Step 5•Carefully cut around the fabric

•Be sure to NOT cut over any pins

SAVE YOUR SCRAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!Other artists can use them.

Step 7•Remove pattern and pins•Cut shapes to decorate the front

Step 9•Sew design pieces to front•Then pin front and back pieces together•Good sides out

•Start sewing both pieces together by making a knot

•Make a knot by sewing a stitch and pulling the thread through the loop

•Tuck the tail into the doll

• Then sew all the way around

• But leave an opening so you can stuff the piece

• Complete another knot at the end

• Sew around the 2 pieces, making even stitches

• Not too close, and not too far apart

• The right distance, and the same throughout the piece

• Even stitches like this

Leave an openingThis in where you put the stuffing in

Step 10: Stuffing

Deconstruct stuffing Stuff head first

Sew the opening closed

Make arms and legsUse a chop Stick to get

stuffing in

Make hands by sinching Attach to torso

Body is doneNow it is time to embellish with beads, ribbon, thread, buttons, yarn, and anything else you like to make it creatively, uniquley yours
