• To demonstrate the correct way to put a bridle on a

horse, as set out in the stable’s training manual

• To introduce the importance of personal safety when working with horses

A bridle has lots of straps...

To bridle a horse, safely

• Open the throat lash

and the noseband

• Curve your right

around his head,

holding the bridle

• Rest the bit gently

against his teeth

with your left hand.

Talk calmly to the horse, as you

• Lift up the bridle with your right hand

• Slip your left hand thumb into the gap in his jaw if he won’t open his mouth

• It won’t hurt you, or the horse!

With the bit in place, ease the ears between the headpiece and browband

• Fasten the throat lash

- can you fit four fingers underneath it?

• Can you slip two fingers under the nose band?

Now, you’re good to go!
