Healthy eating habits in the greek cuisine Our traditional diet is rich in fish,vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, olive oil, poultry

andpoor in red meat.

Researchers around the world claim that the use and combination of these materials in our daily diet, protect the body from cardiac and other diseases.

Healthy eating habits:●Greek dishes with legumes : Chickpea soup (revithia) &

lentil soup (fakes)

Nutritional value: Legumes are a significant

source of protein, dietary fiber, carbohydrates and dietary minerals;

Like other plant-based foods, pulses contain no cholesterol and little fat or sodium.

Healthy eating habits: Vegetables -Salads. Greek dishes

Greek salad or greek village salad: (tomatoes, green peppers, onions, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese, olive oil, oregano, some capers).

Hortas or wild greens (are boiled and then served with olive oil and lemon. They are high in anti-oxidants as well as vitamins and minerals)

Green string beans (fasolakia) Zucchini flowers stuffed with

rice and herbs like dolmades.

Healthy eating habits:FruitsFruits of Greek summer:watermelon, melon, apricots, peaches, nectarines and cherries .Very nutritious, rich in fibre and vitamins, the delicious summer fruits in Greece offer much freshness and hydration under the hot temperatures.

Late August and early September is the season of two other fruits: figs and grapes.

Winter fruits : oranges, mandarins and lemons.

Unhealthy eating habit : Breakfast skipping

For many of us, sleeping in sounds like a better option than getting up a few minutes earlier to have a proper breakfast.This could raise the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity according to medical studies.

Unhealthy eating habit: having snacksHaving meal replacement shakes or snacks in place of proper meals. Bad Effects of Snacking:

Weight gain Health repercussions

(heart disease etc) Tooth decay
