EPIC HEROEPIC HERO

Both movies have an epic hero, with special qualities. They pretty much have the same ideal qualities, those that make them the only one able to accomplish the quest. They are both going through very tough things, makes them stronger.

HARRY’S QUESTHARRY’S QUEST

Kill Voldemort, an evil wizard, who just wants to destroy everybody and to have an unlimited power. In every movie, and every book, Harry gets closer, helped by his friends, but most of the time he ends up close to death himself (1st movie, V. tries to kill him, but Harry’s mom protect him, labyrinth in 4th movie, dragons…)

FRODO’S QUESTFRODO’S QUEST Destroy the Ring to save the

World. “One Ring to rule them all”. It has a huge power, that drives any human being crazy, greedy. He must not let Sauron have the Ring again; that would be a disaster because he is very mean, and has evil intentions. He intends to rule the world, and kill everybody. Thus, as Harry Potter’s, Frodo’s quest is a matter of life or death.

Diversity: - very different people in the Fellowship of the

Ring- They aim for the same thing; their differences don’t matter, and if they do it is just to make the team stronger

- Harry’s best friend is from a poor family when Harry’s parents left him lots of money, he’s from a big family when Harry doesn’t have any; none of Hermione’s parents are wizard, Hagrid doesn’t have any magical power and is a semi-giant.

Death: - Harry was confronted to death as soon as he was born when

his parents were killed by Voldemort. Then his godfather died, killed by a Death Eaters.

- Frodo was confronted to the death too when Gandalf the Grey dies in the first movies. He was a good friend of his.

Neither fear death as long as it’s for the quest. Beyond that: they give their life away for the quest (ex: Ring killing Frodo, 7th book of Harry Potter…)

Sauron+Saruman+ their army against the Fellowship and people they gathered on their way

- Internal conflict: changes along his way, hard to face. Trust problem (Golum), the Ring takes possession of him, he’s not himself anymore.
