DESCRIPTION

I saw my problems and I'll see the light We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right There ain't no danger we can go too far We start believin' now that we can be who we are - grease is the word They think our love is just a growin' pain Why don't they understand? it's just a cryin' shame Their lips are lyin', only real is real We stop the fight right now, we got to be what we feel - grease is the word [Chorus:] (grease is the word, is the word that you heard) It's got a groove, it's got a meaning Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion Grease is the way we are feeling We take the pressure, and we throw away conventionality, belongs to yesterday There is a chance that we can make it so far We start believin' now that we can be who we are - grease is the word [Chorus] This is a life of illusion, a life of control Mixed with confusion - what're we doin' here? We take the pressure, and we throw away conventionality, belongs to yesterday There is a chance that we can make it so far We start believin' now that we can be who we are - grease is the word [Chorus repeats 2x] (grease is the word, is the word, is the word...)

Music This is Elvis Presley. He influenced the Greasers immensely, arguably because he looked like them; The long hair, jeans and attitude. He also sung emotional songs, unlike the Mods, Elvis and the Greasers were emotional boys.Although he sung emotional songs, he was Rock N Roll, and harder than the Beatles which were more pop.

Similarly to Elvis, other musical influencesand inspirations to the Greasers were these three gents, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Richie Valens.Unfortunately, Richie Valens was killed in a plane crash along with fellow singers; Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper (J. P. Richardson). The loss of those 3 led to the day being referred to as ‘The Day Music Died’ and I can’t find the documentary I watched but there were interviews from Greasers who were very sad about the deaths

Fashion

The leatherjacket and cuffed jeans were born not so much as a fashion statement, but out of necessity with the emergence of the California hot-rod culture. The black leather jackets and engineer boots were almost like their uniform. Cuffed Levi’s jeans have always been the choice for anybody on the scene. But these weren’t worn to make a statement either. Clothes were passed down in from families and friends A lot of times if the jeans didn’t fit, they cuffed them up.

Newspaper Articles

Finding an article about any kind of Greaser related incident took ages and I was worried I wouldn’t find anything…However, I eventually found these:

Page 10: Grease lightning

The Brown House Gang were a greaser gang that had troubles with another gang, the Johnny Appleseed Gang. The website that I found these articles claimed that the media were unfairly harsh on the Brown House gang because they were Greasers.
