1. Graduation Planning There are certain courses you NEED to
take in order to get your Dogwood Diploma Creating a transitions
plan, passing these courses, and extra- curricular activities will
get you graduated!
2. Graduation Planning These courses are: Planning 10 Math 10,
and some form of Math 11 or 12 A form of Language Arts 10, 11, and
12 Social Studies 10, and some form of Socials 11, or 12 Science
10, and some form of Science 11, or 12 Fine Arts/ Applied Skill 10,
11, or 12 P.E. 10
3. Graduation Planning To Graduate, you need at least 80
credits, as well as at least 30 hours of work/ volunteer
experience. You get 4 credits for each course you take Most
students end up getting more than the minimum amount You also get 4
credits for the Grad Transitions Program
4. Graduation Planning Elective Credits: You need a minimum of
28 Elective Credits to graduate (included in your 80) These are
courses not required, but courses you have chosen that show your
interests, or future career choices.
5. Graduation Planning Some examples of Elective Courses are:
Woodwork, Metal Sewing Cooking A second language (this is required
at many Universities) More than 1 Science, such as taking Biology
and Chemistry (1 would be an elective) Art, Theatre, Band
6. Graduation Planning I have learned that there are other ways
you can get credits too, such as: Extra-Curricular Activities- some
activities qualify for school credits, such as Yearbook High level
sports teams- if you play for a provincial or national team, your
courses can be designed so that you sport qualifies for credits
Equivalency- if you went to another school outside of the province,
you may be able to get those credits to transfer over to your
present
7. Graduation Planning You also have to take Provincial Exams
in Grades 10, 11, and 12 in: Science (Grade 10) Math (Grade 10)
Language Arts (Grade 10 and 12) Social Studies (Grade 11 or
12)
8. Graduation Planning I have also learned that there are many
scholarships and awards to help you through post secondary school A
lot of them are academic awards, as well as community involvement
and sports awards
9. Graduation Planning In grades 10, 11, and 12, we learn about
the focus areas for careers. They are: Business and Applied
Business Fine Arts, Design, and Media Fitness and Recreation Health
and Human Services Liberal Arts and Humanities Science and Applied
Science Tourism, Hospitality, and Foods Trades and Technology
10. Graduation Planning After you have everything that is
required, you are ready to graduate! Hopefully you have a plan of
what school you are going to go to, how you are going to get money,
etc. Making a Graduation Transitions Plan helps put all of this
into place
