Skill 1 Steps: Create Tables

1. Click the INSERT tab

2. Click the Table button in the Tables group

3. Click Insert Table

4. At the Insert Table dialog box that appears, type a number in the Number of columns field and a number in the Number of rows field

5. Click OK

6. Click in each cell and type in the information

Formatting Tables You can access Quick Tables by clicking the

Table button on the INSERT tab and then clicking Quick Tables

Quick Tables includes common table styles that you might find useful, such as two-column lists and calendars

Skill 2 Steps: Convert Text to Tables

1. Select the text that you want to convert to a table

2. Click the INSERT tab

3. Click the Table button

4. Click Convert Text to Table

5. In the Convert Text to Table dialog box, be sure that the Tabs option is selected in the Separate text at section

6. Click OK

Converting a Table to Text Convert a table to text by following these steps:

1. select the desired section of the table

2. click the Convert to Text button in the Data group on the TABLE TOOLS LAYOUT tab

3. choose what to use as a separator in the text (tabs, paragraphs, commas, or another symbol you indicate)

Fitting Text on a Page The standard page size for most documents is

8.5 inches x 11 inches If a document in landscape orientation runs

slightly longer than a single page, consider printing it on a larger piece of paper, such as legal paper, which is 8.5 inches x 14 inches

You can also fit more text on a page by narrowing the margins in the document

Deleting Table Content Once you have selected the appropriate rows or

columns, right-click In the shortcut menu that appears, select either

Delete Rows or Delete Columns You can also use the Delete button on the

TABLE TOOLS LAYOUT tab to perform the same action

Previewing the Table Styles The gallery of table styles is found on the

TABLE TOOLS DESIGN tab Experiment with table styles by clicking in a

table and then moving the mouse pointer over the style options in the Table Styles group

The live preview feature will show you what the style will look like

When you see one that you like, click it, and the style is applied to your table, instantly!
