Mathematics at The Fulbridge Academy

The Beginning:

•Scheme - Abacus Textbooks

•Differentiated Worksheets

•Teacher talk for the input

•Each teacher would teach maths concepts in the way they thought was best (Or they found easiest at school)

•Very little mental maths

•Teaching was based on the age of the children (Not formative assessment)

What did I do? •The curriculum:

•Working with groups of children in every year group

•Joining in with lessons and teaching lessons across school

•Working with individual children from each class

•Talked to staff

•Listened to the language they used

•Success Steps •Arranged by block/unit •Consistent across school •Interleaved and distributed

Teaching Changes •Invested in good practical resources

•Demonstrated how to use resources with classes and groups

•Supported with planning in each year group

•Staff Meetings •Staff created ideas for using resources •Shared ideas of how they had used the resources
