FRONT COVEROf school magazine

By Charlotte Holland

Orginal Photograph

I chose this photograph to use as my main photo for my school magazine front cover because I thought that it was most appropriate and I thought about all the different aspects of the image. For example- emotions, background, camera angle.

Background

I then edited out the background of the orginal photo using the program fireworks and changed it to white. I found that this was a bit plain and boring for my magazine and wouldn't catch the audience's eye. Therefore I went to an online photo editing program www.picnik.com and used an effect called 'cinemascope' to make the background more interesting.

Title and slogan

Using fireworks I then had make my title. I found out what text I wanted to use because I researched into what font 'Vogue' magazine used and then proceeded. I decided to change '6' from black to red to make it stand out and also then co-ordinated it with my slogan. I made up this slogan because I knew I wanted one with three seperate phrases so they are memoriable.

Footer prize, barcode and interview

I chose block of gradient colour to use for my footer to put information in so that they stood out from the background image. I included a barcode because it made the magazine look more formal and professional. I also thought that a good prize would be topshop or topman vouchers because being a sixthformer myself a big interest is what I wear and the presentation of myself. The image of a person holding a question mark for the interview shows mystery and would appeal to the reader.

Captions and Issue date

The captions that I have used are bursts of information to grab the readers interest so they buy and read the magazine to find out more. The issue date provides a small amount of information which is vital for a professional magazine and tells the reader when the magazine is issued.

Final front cover

This is my final magazine which I am very happy with and I think looks professional and will appeal to my target audience of sixthformers. The stars on the right side of the front cover show a final touch and a personal feel to the magazine.
