CANQATE’s Footprint Initiative was conceptualized as a strategy for informing stakeholders on issues related to Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education. The CANQATE Board of Management and the National Accreditation Council, Guyana (NAC) continues the Footprint Initiative in Guyana during the recently concluded CANQATE 13th Annual Conference.

On the morning of Monday, October 3, 2016 two secondary schools were visited by a five-member team to discuss the role of CANQATE, the importance of Quality in Tertiary Education, the functions of the national accreditation body and the dangers of diploma mills and non-accredited institutions. The team comprised:

Dr Angela Penny - CANQATE Board Member Mrs Sherma Joseph - CANQATE Board Member Mr Lyndon Abdool - CANQATE Board Member Mrs Simone Gonsalves NAC Accreditation Officer Mr Ryan Serioux - NAC Research Officer The fifth and sixth form students of the St Joseph’s High School and St Rose’s High School listened attentively and actively participated through questions and comments about the importance of Quality Assurance.

The experience can be deemed rewarding for both the presenters and students as nuggets of wisdom were transferred and seeds of consciousness in Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education were dispersed to a generation that comprises the future beneficiaries of tertiary education.
