FIRST Lego League

FIRST Lego League:

• Challenges students to solve real world problems using robotics.

• Encourages students to work together and to think like scientists and engineers.

• Builds self esteem and confidence.

• Provides a fun, creative, hands on learning experience.

FLL Children:• Apply math and science

concepts to design, build and program autonomous robots.

• Research challenges facing scientists today.

• Learn teamwork skills.• Present their findings to

their community.• Discover the fun in science,

technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

How FLL works:• Teams of up to 10 children, grades

4-6 are formed in each of our schools.

• FLL releases its “challenge” for the year. Past challenges include: Nature’s Fury, Food Factor, Body Forward, and Senior Solutions.

• Students begin work building their robot and challenge mat, researching this year’s topics and getting to know their team mates.

• By the end of the season, students will have built and programmed a robot using Lego Mindstorms technology, researched a problem facing today’s scientists and discovered an innovative solution for that problem.

FLL In Orange:• At least 1 team at each

school.• Collaborate with 21st

Century on STEM learning.• Run a month long summer

camp (this year’s camp will focus on building a Green City as well as a Mission to Mars).

• We have gone to the state competition almost every year that we have run the program.

Our Goals:

• To partner with local engineers who are interested in becoming mentors to our FLL children.

• To raise money in order to purchase a Nao Robot.

• We would like to see the program grow during both the regular season and summer camp and perhaps add a spring session as well.
