Final Decisions Target audience

What Music Genre have you chosen and why?

I have chosen Pop genre because I am able to see from my survey that most people reading magazines are aged roughly 15-18 and have therefore chosen Pop genre as their favourite genres. I also see Pop as a genre I am able to work well with as I show a keen interest in Pop genres therefore I am able to understand the ideas portrayed in pop genres. Pop is also a well known genre that is very popular and there are many artists that are under the pop genre meaning I will have lots of different artists and topics to include in the magazine cover and double page spread. Also, pop allows me to make my magazine bright and lively as it does not have to be too serious because the readers are mostly young, teenage girls meaning I am able to relate to the media products I am creating.

Who is your target audience and why?

My target audience are girls aged 15-19 because after my research analysis using a questionnaire, I am able to see that the majority of people who buy pop magazines are teenage girls. I also fit into this target audience meaning I would be able to make the media products with knowledge that I know is eye-catching to girls of my age. Finally, teenage girls are able to read and enjoy pop magazines meaning that the magazine institution company would earn a high profit because of the high sales they would benefit from.

What research have you done to provide evidence of your decision?

Research I have  completed in order to provide enough evidence for the decisions I have made include a questionnaire in which I created in order to find a specific target audience and genre. This questionnaire helped me find my answers after taking into consideration all of the results. Questions I included consisted of questions about their age, which allowed me to find out a specific age gap in which my target audience will be. Another question I included was "what genre of music do you listen to?" this allowed me to find out what genre people listen to allowing me to provide a magazine with the most popular genre of music in order to create the best media product possible with the outcome applying to a wide audience.

I also completed a "LIIAR" document where I researched different magazine covers in order to find out what specific details I have to include whilst creating my media products. I researched the different conventions/language used in the magazine, the institution in which the magazine comes from, the ideology behind the magazine, the audience that the magazine aims at and finally the representation and the way in which the magazine cover represents specific aspects of the genre. By researching this, I was able to find out what I needed to include in my media products to make it as realistic and presentable as possible for the audience.
