What music Genre and why?The music genre that I have selected is ‘Alternative Rock’ which is a sub genre of rock music that

emerged from the independent music underground of the 80s era and became widely common by the 90s. The 'alternative' definition refers to the genre's difference from mainstream general rock

music, voiced predominantly in a distorted guitar sound, transgressive lyrics and generally a nonchalant, rebellious attitude.

Target AudienceI decided upon the 16-24 age range as teenagers look to music as a powerful social force that also

taps into an individuals personal identity, memories and mood. eccentric and unconventional. They will appeal to punk rock, heavy metal, alternative rock. This links with Alternative Rock

because it’s a great topic conversation for teens because it can expand to eclectic styles and the origins of the Grunge movement. The target audience will be fun, never follow trends and Strive for apathy and failure. I chose these requirement partially because I noticed that when doing my research they way they present themselves in terms of clothing is not orderly fashion and clean cut. They succeed to be imperfectly perfect which is what I want to succeed when creating my

magazine.

What research have you done to provide evidence of your decision?

I researched background information on different Alternative Rock bands and I concluded that they all share the same characteristics.-> Kerrang! magazine is a prime factor for evidence; they have a radio show which enables boys and girls to stay up to date with current underground artists. Also, they publicise mainstream artists but still promote unconventional bands. ->Since, I am aim to have my magazine targeted for both genders, ITunes is relatively a great source intended for music for teenagers, with people downloading all the new and current songs. The magazine will also have a high demand as people want to find songs that come out before the charts as not all songs are made into videos straight away, especially house.

Grunge Characteristics:• Inspired by hard-core punk, heavy metal, and alternative rock• Clothing commonly worn by grunge musicians in Washington consisted of thrift store items and the

typical outdoor clothing of the region, as well as a generally unkempt appearance. The style did not evolve out of a conscious attempt to create an appealing fashion; music journalist Charles R Cross said, "[Nirvana lead singer] Kurt Cobain was just too lazy to shampoo," and Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman said, "This [clothing] is cheap, it's durable, and it's kind of timeless. It also runs against the grain of the whole flashy aesthetic that existed in the 80s.“

• One main way of life of Grunge was authenticity
