Filipino Social Philosophy There is a mutual blending between the east
and the west character.
Realistic and non – rationalist.
“Nasa Tao Ang Gawa, Nasa Dios Ang Awa”.
THE FILIPINO AS MAN
The Filipino as an Individual
Looks at himself as a self, as one who feels, one who wills, as one who thinks, as one who acts; as a total whole person.
The Filipino may forgive and insult but he carries the wounds for a long time.
The Filipino as a Thinker Filipino intuition is similar to “poetic intuition”
or “Knowledge through connaturality”.
Inductive by nature.
Subjective, concrete and imprecise.
Non dualistic view or synthetic world view.
The Filipino as a Social Being
Less individualistic.
Non – dualism or harmony explains the Filipino’s communitarian nature.
The Filipino looks at a person from the view point of harmony.
Notices the hierarchy and the dichotomy of himself and of others.
THE FILIPINO AND THE WORLD OF
THINGS
Philosophy Of Time Wants to be in harmony with nature through
equilibrium.
If the balance is upset, the Filipino expects suffering and other forms of misfortune.
Philosophy Of Time Knows that nature is wiser so he does not
tamper with the ways of the nature.
Cosmic time in Filipino is cyclic, or spiral and dynamic.
There is always tomorrow.
Philosophy Of Causality Non –dualistic world view.
Disorders occur in progression.
Philosophy Of Law Views law from its interior aspect.
Views the law concretely.
THE FILIPINO AND THE OTHER WORLD
The Sacred and the Profane
Sees the divine transparency in nature and in holy persons.
The profane and the sacred are inseparable for the Filipino.
On God, The Spirits And The Department
God’s existence is a fact for the Filipino.
There is no need in proving his existence.
The Filipino’s philosophy of God, the spirits and the departed ancestors is a reflection of his social philosophy.
The Filipinos Bearing Has non- western concept of conscience.
More communitarian than individualistic
Believes in the innate goodness of man.
His lack of moral conscience is balanced by his philosophy of retribution.
