Module Outline:

Aim
1. To underline and develop a strong pedagogical understanding regarding teaching, learning and assessment through effective planning, policy and practice.
1. To enable students to develop best practice approaches for C.S. through a broad range of assignments based on different teaching and learning methods.
Objectives
a. Know and understand the content and implications of the C.S. syllabus with due regard to current practice.
a. To expose students to different pedagogical approaches to teach for C.S.
b. To develop student ability to plan effectively for C.S. and to enable students to integrate the effective use of teaching resources into their practice.
b. To enable students to solve typical problems that they may face when practicing in second level.
c. To identify and encourage the importance of teaching roles for wood processing, health and safety, classroom/project management, special needs education etc…
c. To enable students to plan effectively and develop strategies for teaching different elements with the C.S. syllabus.
d. To enable students to identify and plan for core values within subject matter, such as sustainability.
d. To engage students in regular practice in the lab setting to develop their ability to teach and use resources effectively
EY4106 is purposely designed to facilitate the development of your teaching practices in technology education settings, mainly leaving certificate Construction Studies (C.S.).

75% Laboratory Work/Assignments 25% Written Exam (Terminal)
Note: Students must pass all assessment elements to
obtain a pass in the modules.

Assignment 1: Problem Based Learning Task 1, 2 & 3 Weighting 15%
Assignment 2: Teach4Construction 1, 2, 3 & 4 Weighting 20% - Traffic Light system
Assignment 3: Special Needs Education Weighting 10%
Assignment 4: Day Practical Exam Weighting 15%
Assignment 5: Education for Sustainability Weighting 15%
Written Exam (Terminal) Weighting 25%

Integration of Elements: As part of this module you will undertake and
complete five separate assignments. These assignments will involve the integration of a
range of elements such as the following: Demonstration of practical wood processing Use of standard blackboard Use of ICT, such as the interactive whiteboard. Accommodation of special needs education Accommodation and assimilation of current practices
in construction studies i.e. environmental sustainability Problem solving, planning and strategy development
for a wide range of practical issues involving the day to day operation of the technology education setting.
