Lesson Plans Lesson plans are essential in terms of delivering statements of intent i.e. Aims and objectives Lesson plans generally contain a number of defined categories Lesson plans differ from subject to subject Construction Studies involves alot of visual and practical learning This type of learning is heavily associated with the psychomotor domain When compared to the affective and cognitive domains, the psychomotor domain has not yet been developed to such levels Therefore it is important that lesson plans for Construction Studies incorporate a difference in approach whilst effectively addressing each of the domains

4 Pre-Requisite Knowledge E.g. Students have basic knowledge and comprehension. Previous two lessons looked at the role of foundations and the evolution of foundation design. Some students have concrete experience of setting out and laying foundations resulting from a range of on-site experience.

Construction Studies Lesson Planning

• The methodology and activities you wish to employ should be reflected in your objectives

• This enables the formulation of true statements of intent• However, you can now see the vast amount of aspects involved in the

subject• If we were to develop a hierarchy of need for Construction Studies subject

matter, what would it look like???

???

EY4106/WT5912

Page 16: Ey4106 unit4 week5

Construction Studies Lesson Planning

• What we can say is that Construction Studies is primarily a practical subject and thus one that is heavily associated with the psychomotor domain

• If we were to classify a hierarchy of needs for the psychomotor domain of Construction Studies then what would it look like???

???

EY4106/WT5912

Page 17: Ey4106 unit4 week5

Construction Studies Lesson Planning

• In terms of planning for Construction Studies, how may these potential hierarchies influence planning? Statements of Intent heavily reflective of

interactive/physical processes Emphasis on working in groups, problem solving and

accountability for a wide range of issues Critical reflection Encouraging divergent thinking for creativity Thinking like technologists!!!

EY4106/WT5912

Page 18: Ey4106 unit4 week5

Construction Studies Lesson Planning

In terms of planning for Construction Studies, how may the physical layout be influenced?• Portrait – Landscape? • A4 – A3?• Closed loop activity processes?• More sketches & bullet points of critical information rather

than paragraphs of information?• Addressing key questions within closed loop processes in

relation to sketch/bullet points is essential?• Preparation of physical resources and stating how they will

be used...i.e. More detail about how resources are used?

Week 5 Task 2: One Double & Two Single Classes per week.1. Appoint new group leader2. Investigate assigned subject area3. Roughly outline learning experiences (Tyler’s Model)4. Roughly outline content (Tyler’s Model)5. Integrate points 3 & 4 to develop a group scheme of work (Tyler’s Model)6. Devise appropriate lesson plan template, as agreed upon by group7. Each group member must produce one lesson plan to be taught in Week 6/7 labs.8. Groups 1 & 2 will teach in week 69. Groups 3 & 4 will teach in week 710. Lab teach time will be 5 min/student – Overview of lesson application11. All elements must be submitted electronically as follows i.e. Group1_Substructure-Scheme &

Group1_Foundations-Lesson1• Feedback: Each teaching lab will involve the use of a feedback response box where fellow

students will provide anonymous comments/suggestions about your teaching. These comments are for your own benefit. In recognition of feedback, each student will be required to produce 5 strong points and 5 development points about their teaching as indicated through fellow student feedback. This must be prepared for week 7.
