Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Colour Scheme

The colours I used throughout my magazine were the most popular in regards to the audience questionnaire I had done previously. Also they were colours that were associated heavily towards the indie genre. The colour scheme I had used was black, blue and white. This was due to these being used commonly within indie magazines, so I assumed this would be a good idea to use as people can judge what genre of magazine it is. I decided on these colours due to the blue being able to stand out on either black or white, so it would be more eye-catching towards the target audience.

Masthead

The masthead I had used matched the before matched colour scheme, due to the font being black and the outer layer being blue. The name of the magazine was needing to be something that links heavily towards indie music. This is why I decided to use the word ‘buskin’ since a lot of indie artists busk on the streets to make music. So it seemed logical to use this as anyone would be able to see what genre the magazine is.

Cover Lines

The articles on the magazine cover that I included took inspiration from other indie music magazines so that I could gain an understanding of what articles fans of indie music would like to read about. I tried to use well-known artists that people would easily know and are fans of which would most likely interest them to want to read the magazine. I used my more interesting articles as cover lines so that the magazine would appear more appealing to the target audience.

Front Cover Image

The person on my front cover is highly unknown which is to attempt to create intrigue due to readers wanting to know who the person is and what they have done to make them so popular. Also the magazine stands out more due to it not being generic and using an already made artist and using a more unknown person.

Contents Page Images

The images that I used on my contents page, were to attract the audience towards the more interesting articles. I used images to highlight a competition, a new artist (like my front cover) and information for one of the biggest festivals in the year. I did this so the audience would be intrigued to find out who this new star is and why they should know who he is. Also I highlighted the competition so people would want to try and win tickets to Glastonbury which is then why I mentioned Glastonbury information.

Contents Page Text

I used inspiration from other magazines to help me with the creation of my articles and their description. This in turn allowed me a better understanding of the indicative layout of an indie music magazine and what forms of articles would usually attract the specified target audience. I used both formal and informal language to cater towards ages ranging from 16-30, so there is something for everyone.

Double Page Spread Image

The image that I used for my double page spread was to emphasise who the artist is to the audience, due to him being quite an unknown artist. I wanted to showcase that he is just a normal teenager making music in his room (hence the choice of background). Although he is unknown to most people you can gain a slightly better understanding of what he is like due to the things within his room.

The article was wrote by me from an interview with Liam, where I asked him various questions about what his life is like with his family and friends, so that people could see what he is like behind being a performer. However, I did want to showcase his inspirations and his more memorable moments within music as it makes it more appealing to the readers as you can see what made these artists into what they are now.
