Evaluation question 4WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
Audience research
When doing my audience research, I discovered that 16-25 year olds was the target range for an indie-rock genre music magazine as this was founded for NME. When doing mine, it was the same as when I did my audience research on people’s favourite music magazine ages 16-25, the top 3 were Q, Billboard, NME and Rolling Stone (both with 3 votes). As Q is an indie type magazine, it was appropriate to look around this genre as well as NME and Rolling Stone being more the rock end to why my final genre was resulted to being indie-rock. Other detailed research indicated that Pop and Rock are the top genres for 16-25 year olds. This was near the start of the course when I did a survey monkey of peoples favourite music genre(s).
Detailed audience research
When doing my detailed audience research on indie rock, I found out that in a recent survey that 16-25 year olds both male and female liked the indie rock genre apart from one female who said no (age 21-25). From this, I saw that there was a male dominance as it shows that for NME magazine as well with 66% male readership and 34% female. When I came to do my final product, I knew I wanted to contrast with this idea to why my readership was more 65% female and 35% male as I dedicated more female artists rather than male.
My audience research When getting feedback on my magazine front cover, contents and double page spread, I posted valid information online on social media such as Facebook as well as asking people. I realised that my target audience was no different to NME and other indie-rock magazines by sticking to 16-25 year olds as influential artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Florence + the Machine and The 1975 all target this age range and have ever since the start of indie-rock music. This still carries on today.
Overall view:
Target Audience: 16-25 years old
Gender: 65% female, 35% male
Class: working class
