Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media

technologies in the construction

and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Page 2: Evaluation Question 4

For my A2 Media coursework, I used a

variety of different technologies, when

researching, planning and constructing a film

trailer, film poster and film magazine front

cover. Using these different technologies

was vital, in making our products effectively

achieve the objectives that were set out for

it, and to make our products look as

professional as possible. With this project I

learnt a lot more about different technologies

and how to use them effectively, than I did

with my AS project. This is because this

project requires usage of different media

technologies, such as a camera for filming.

Google’s: Blogger

I have used Google’s blogger previously at AS Level and from there I also

used it for my own personal blog. I have learnt a lot with regards learning to

use and using Blogger, since AS Level.

I like using Blogger, it’s relatively simple to use and it’s a great way in

presenting my coursework, as it is a technological type of Media!

Internet/ Search Engines (Google)

I used the search engine Google for many things for my A2

coursework.

I used it mainly for research and it came up with many helpful

results.

I use Google daily and it has really helped me gain useful

information, such as the BFI website.

Page 5: Evaluation Question 4

slideshare

I really like using slideshare

It’s simple to use, as I can compose a presentation on say

Microsoft PowerPoint, and then simply upload it.

I have used it to present my work in various ways.

I have used it in my Evaluation Question 1 and even this

Evaluation Question.

Prezi

I hadn’t previously used Prezi, before I started this project.

I decided that I liked the way information could be presented

on this software.

Therefore I worked hard to get my head around how to use

Prezi. And it has proved to be very successful in presenting

my work and research that I have found.

I have also used it on my previous evaluation question 2.

It took me a while to work out how to use Prezi,

But now I know how to use it I can use it for all

types of things.

I really like the way I have presented my work on

Prezi!

Filming/CameraFilming Camera: Canon 1100D

Phone Camera

I used the camera on my mobile phone to film some of the feedback and the audition. This is so it is easily accessible to me and it was simple to film, because I was familiar with it. The camera is quite good quality for a phone camera, which was helpful as well.

Webcam/Photo booth software on Apple MacBook

This webcam was brilliant for getting feedback, because we were able to see the reaction whilst the people we getting feedback from, were watching the trailer. It was also a good way of recording, as we could clearly hear and see the facial expression of the person giving feedback. This is a great feature on the Apple MacBook.

I improved my camera skills, which became vital to my

project. In my group we used a Canon 1100D camera,

which is more professional than the one I used at AS

level. I was able to get high definition, professional shots

by using this camera.

Page 8: Evaluation Question 4

Audio (Garage Band)

To make sure that the audio was to a good

quality, Garage Band was used, that is a feature

on the Apple MacBook.

It was easy to work with and it was easy to upload

audio sections and music to it.

It was also simple to edit sections and I’m pleased

with the result that it has had on the trailer.

Page 9: Evaluation Question 4

IMovie (Film editing software on

Apple MacBook)

To get my mind around making a film, I made a preliminary

short film. For this film I used a Serif editing software which

proved to be difficult to work with. Therefore I knew that a

different editing software would have to be used for this

trailer.

Therefore, IMovie seemed to be the most legible for the film

trailer. It’s highly professional and relatively simple to use.

I really enjoyed using IMovie, it also helped that it had a

template to make film credits on.

Page 10: Evaluation Question 4

Social Networking (Facebook)

I used the social networking site for various means. I firstly used it to create events (organisation, when people were free). I also used the chat feature, to discuss various ideas with my project partner, Owen. I also used chat for feedback from people and discuss the more detailed parts with people involved with the filming. I also used Facebook to get permission to use relevant information and footage of the actors in my project.

It was easy to get hold of people on Facebook, because it is regularly used by teenagers/young adults. People who I got feedback from responded quickly because they keep an eye on their social networking accounts.

One of the questions

that I asked on

Facebook Chat.

Photo Editing/Construction Software –

Serif Draw Plus

During my AS coursework, the editing software at my school ha proved to

be extremely unreliable, as it was constantly crashing.

However, this year my school invested in new editing software and I have

thoroughly enjoyed learning how to use it and creating media products on

it.

• It took me a few practises and time to

get used to using it, but I got the hang

of it and I’m really pleased with the

professionalism with my final products

from using it.

• I used it to create both my film poster

and the film magazine front cover.

• I was able to change colour schemes

and edit photographs on this

programme which proved to be very

helpful.
