During the 1990s, carbon dioxide emissions increased approximately 1.3% each year. But since 2000, the rate has increased to 3.3% per year, with an estimated annual global CO2 emissions increase of 35% from 1990 to 2006.

A recent study from Toronto Public Health estimates over 440 deaths a year in the Canadian city can be directly attributed to traffic emissions.

ADVERSE IMPACTS ON ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGY

Any project ruins the land, forests and pollutes water, air etc.,

Projects like Dams, Power Houses, Steel Plants, Factories, Fertilizer Units, Chemical Complex, Rail-road transport networks ruin and or pollute the natural resources and finally degrade the quality of life in the area.

The environment that gets affected by any project activities are as follows.

Pollution / Mis-use of land

Deforestation and depletion of wild life

Pollution of Water

Pollution of Air

Noise Pollution

Socio-economic & cultural pollution and so on

Page 21: environmental pollution

MIS-USE OF LAND

The soil is a living record, from where originated all major ecological events of the past.

Along with sunlight, air and water, soil supports all living beings, plants, as well as animals.

The productive land is the source of human sustenance

The per capita availability of habitat land is likely to get reduced to less than 50% of its proportion by 2025.

LOSS OF WILD LIFE AND ETHINO BOTONY

As many as 500 millions of plants, animals and microorganisms have made this planet their home since life began 3.50 millions years ago.

Today there are only 10 millions species alive and about 490 millions have been extinct.

Page 23: environmental pollution

The wild life represents the result of many years of evolution, and constitute an environmental heritage of the past, a world, which once surrounded our ancestries.
