This module gives us activities on talking and writing about topics of interest. In this module, we will be having a review on the variety of sentences. We will also learn how to arrange ideas in a paragraph. A. Tell whether each sentence is simple, compound, or complex. __________ 1. I am the guardian of your health. __________ 2. Go back to the correct answers of Let’s Try This B. Which sentence is simple? Which sentence is compound? Which sentence is complex?

Sentence 1 is a simple sentence. It conveys only one idea. Sentence 2 is a compound sentence. It conveys two ideas connected my the word but. Compound sentences are joined by connectors and , or, or but. Sentence 3 is a complex sentence. It is made up of one independent clause and one dependent clause joined by the word if. A clause is a group of words with a verb and its subject. The Independent Clause expresses a complete thought. The Dependent Clause depends on the independent clause for meaning. It does not express a complete thought and it cannot stand by itself. All dependent clauses are introduced by connectors like

How about the arrangement of the paragraph? How were the sentences arranged?

- The sentences were arranged from general to specific. It started with the sentence telling what his work is. The second and the third paragraphs tells us the details of his work-how he feels when he delivers good or bad news.

Your aim in writing your paragraph will determine what arrangement you would want to use. In relating a person’s life, you may use a time order arrangement. In explaining something, arrange details from the most important to the less important or vice-versa. In narrating an experience, start with an outcome followed by the events that led to the outcome. You can use variety of sentences in talking or writing about topics of interests. The following are the kinds of sentences according to structure: 1. Simple Sentence- it conveys one idea. A simple sentence can have the following:

- one subject and one predicate - two subjects and one predicate - one subject and two predicates - two subjects and two predicates

2. Compound Sentence- conveys two ideas connected by the words and, or, or but. 3. Complex Sentence- it is made up of one independent clause and one or more dependent clause.

Below is a picture of a garden. Write a five-sentence paragraph about it using simple, compound, and complex sentences. Arrange the ideas from general to specific.
