Each year thousands of medical students apply to match into emergency medicine (EM) residency training
programs. For students unable to attend regional or national conferences or those without EM residency programs at their home institutions, obtaining high
quality advising information can be difficult.

EMRA Hangouts were designed to bridge this gap

Curricular Design
• Participants pre-register for Hangout sessions each month
• Multiple avenues of advertisement used (Website, Email, Social Media)
• Sessions composed of formal presentation by speakers followed by moderated question and answer sessions.
• Hangout sessions have an average run time of one hour
• Individual and multi-person panel formatted sessions have successfully been performed
• EMRA worked closely with CORD’s Student Advising Task Force
• Presenter Recruitment

Curricular Design
• Sessions hosted via Zoom.us software platform, an online video conferencing service
• Capable of hosting 100 participants at a time
• Scalable, affordable, user friendly, free to participants & presenters
• Sessions recorded and hosted on EMRA website for students unable to attend live

Post session surveys show majority (≈ 90%) of respondents found the sessions very helpful to their progression as students

• “This was a fantastic session, it was great to hear from a PD about what he's looking for and what really matters.”
• “Informative, great insight and perspective.”
• “It was so personal. All three doctors directly answered my question.”
• “ The video chat made the event seem so casual, that I felt like if I meet anyone from the session I wouldn't hesitate to feel comfortable introducing myself.”

65% of asked respondents reported they would change their plans based on information received from the respective EMRA Hangout
