Thanks to all the candidates
We would like to thank all the candidates for running and their effort. We see it takes great courage of stepping up in this new procedure with interviews, letter of motivation and CV and the elections, let alone a completely new organization. Their effort makes this new Common House possible.

Content Introductory note by the Board of Trustees
The first elections for the Common House board With modest pride we present you the first election booklet for the Common House Board of 2012/2013. You’re about to elect the very first board for the Common House and with this booklet the candidates for the General Board positions hope to convince you to vote for them.
All candidates have been interviewed by the Board of Trustees and have been questioned concerning their motivation, academic qualifications and their vision of the Common House. The Board of Trustees has expressed its confidence in all of these candidates and lets the final decision to the GA, choose wisely.
The Board of Trustees has set itself the goal of putting the best candidates forward for the Daily Board positions. Since this process is taking longer than expected, we did not manage to include these positions in this booklet. We’ll present the candidates we see as best to you at the GA, where you can approve or disapprove of these people. Our apologies for this inconvenience, for next year the procedure will be similar but started sooner to avoid issues like these. At this moment we decided that a balanced and good decision is more important than time pressure.

Good luck with making your choice! The Board of Trustees of Stichting R.A.S.A. bar
Dearest RA students, As the great fictional character that is Forrest Gump once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.” In the circumstances of this campaign, I believe things work in quite the same manner. I can tell you about myself (my name is Pamela, I’m twenty years old, half Dutch, half Filipino), or why I’d be good for the position of Events Manager of the Common House (I’m approachable, determined, and able to work well in a team), I could even tell you about my experience for such a position (Promotions Officer and PartyCo), but in the end you never know how someone will do the job until they actually do it. Going against three more than capable competitors makes running for this position that much more challenging, and you as the voter may feel that at this point you don’t know who to vote for. Which of us will make for the best Events Manager of this long-‐awaited Common House? Who will prove to work best within the board? All relevant questions when making a decision, but now I’m asking you to put your trust in me. Being a part of the Common House board will not be about making changes, it’s about paving the way for future members and setting the standards. However, the concept of the Common House will change the lives of RA students permanently, and for the better. I am running in this campaign, specifically because I personally would love nothing more than to see the Common House succeed. This emotional investment leads me to believe that I would then work even harder to achieve all that the Common House aims to be: a place in Middelburg that students can truly call their own. In reading this I hope you see a little bit into what I’m working towards and why I’m doing so. On that note, I ask you to vote for me because doing so would be your best bet! Love, Pamela

Francisca Ribeiro Bártolo
My name is Francisca, I am a second semester student and I am running for the position of event manager for our Common House.
Since we (finally) are going to have our own space in a while, we should use the possibilities this gives us. Our new Common House will be our living room, where we can meet, study, relax, but also hold events and throw parties. Events not only organized by RASA and their committees, but also events and parties that we, the students, want to organize. All these initiatives should come together in our new Common House. Therefore the event manager should be an open, organized person who can be easily approached by anyone who wants to organize something. If elected, I will do the best I can to make sure that everyone who has an idea can put this idea into practice.
Furthermore, the coming board will be the first board the Common House will have and therefore has to be a strong board and consist of team players which I am. Moreover, I have good communicational skills, which is important for the cooperation with both RASA and RA students. I am motivated, a hard worker and hopefully you will give me the possibility to make our new living room successful, comfortable and most of all fun for us students.

Anne Laure Rouw
Event Manager
Caspar Wieten
Dear fellow RA students, For those of you who do not know me, I am Anne Laure Rouw and I would love to be your first Common House Event Manager. You might know me from one of RASA’s teams that I was a member of in the past year. I helped organizing the Christmas Gala, the Goodbye Dean Event and currently I am in the Culture week Team. By organizing these activities I learned how the organization of RASA works. At my high school, I have been chair of the student association for two years. I think these experiences would help me enormously in the job of Event Manager, because they taught me what organizing and coordination means. There are a couple of things that in my opinion are very important for the Event Manager of the Common House. The new Event Manager should be someone who:
· is really enthusiastic about the Common House itself, about organizing activities and about being involved in the RA community.
· is easy to approach for people who have questions or want to organize something.
· encourages student initiative, because this is what RASA is based on. · is organized and finishes everything on time. · is experienced in organization and communication with RASA
because most of the events facilitated by the Common House are organized by RASA.
In my opinion, I meet all these requirement. I hope I convinced you that I am highly motivated to be your first Event Manager! If you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to approach me or email me at [email protected] ! I hope to see you all at the GA!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Caspar and I am a third semester
student at RA. I am majoring in social science with
the focus on Economics, Social Psychology and
Geography and I want to be the first Common
House Event Manager.
When others were searching for a new Common
House I found out that I was already interested in
it, but in an informal way. I also noticed that RA
students need their own location where they can party and organize other kinds of
events. These ideas were the reasons why I want to become Event Manager.
The main task of an Event Manager is to arrange that every committee can organize
their events in the Common House. To do this, I want to make sure that there is a good
communication with RASA and the committees. I am very social and all committees are
equally important for me. Therefore it is easy for me to go in consultation with RASA and
the committees and give every committee an equal chance of organizing an event
without giving a committee a privilege.
In addition, I am also organized. This means that I can make a clear schedule regarding
the different events and everything that comes with it. On the other hand, I am flexible
enough to deal with the unannounced aspects of organizing events. I am also creative
enough to come up with a solution for possible problems and to find things that can
make specific events more interesting or fun.
The reason I think I am a good addition to the Common House board is because I am a
very stable person and I can handle a lot of work without getting stressed. On the other
hand, I can also work very hard to achieve my goals. The combination of these two make
me willing to take full responsibility for my work.
If I get elected, I will guarantee you that I will try my very best to make the Common
House a new and awesome place for all students!
Inventory Manager Maria Verwoerd
Facility Manager Koen Waasdorp
Dear future visitors of the Common House, In response to the elections for the general board of the Common House, I would like to let you know that I am running for the position of Inventory Manager. My name is Maria, currently in my second semester and majoring in law and politics. The new ideas for the successor of Barrel immediately made me wanted to be part of the first board. The total concept of the Common House very much appeals to me; a place available to combine the best thing RA has to offer us. A place where everyone and everything that we share within the RA community and beyond can come together to study, grab a lunch, gather, and have a good time. I would love to contribute to the development of our new living room. I should be the new Inventory Manager as I feel that I possess what it takes to carry out the tasks related to the position. I am an organised and punctual person, and I am not afraid to carry responsibility. I believe this fundamental to the position as, by all means, without someone to take care of a sufficient number of kegs of beer, the Tuesday nights will forcibly end much earlier that anyone would like. Furthermore, I would like to describe myself as a team player. The New Common house is still in its infancy, and developing the place might sometimes become a challenge. Nevertheless, I think that with good teamwork, very little is inconvincible. As a last argument I would like to mention my experience. For almost four years now I have been working in a broad-‐based catering company, and I have seen what it entails to run such a business successfully. Besides that, I have proven to be a dedicated volunteer in national and international projects of a big youth organisation. Concluding, I am very enthusiastic and I would love to be part of the Common House board. Thank you for taking time to read the Common House booklet, and I hope to see you at the GA!
I see the Common House as a big part of the future of RA. It will play a big role in the student life of every single person. My goal is to make it enjoyable for everybody, a place for everybody: a good lunch, a coffee while studying, a great party and most of all a living room where everyone feels welcome. This requires a lot of energy and effort dedicated to the project and I think with my enthusiasm for it, this can be possible. I would love to spend my time on this task. As a facility manager I want to create a ‘living’ atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable, a place where committees can host their events and an environment that is open for student initiatives. Cooperation and communication with all committees is something crucial for this, because we want to make the most out of the Common house building. With my enthusiasm and passion for the project, I think I can perform the task required. I will be present in the Common House nearly 24/7 and ready to jump in when necessary. With my experience in the Sportsco board and organizing numerous events, like the ski trip, I think I have the capabilities and dedication to function well in a team. I really want to make the most out of the Common House project and I hope that you give me the chance!
Human Resource Manager Leonie Fierloos
Human Resource Manager Yara Khalil
Dear all, I am Leonie Fierloos, a second semester student, and I am running for the position of human resource manager of your common house. You might be wondering what my visions and experiences are. Of course I have some ideas for our new common house:
1.) A good bartender academy 2.) Bartender activities, such as a dinner, at
least twice a semester for all bartenders to get to know each other
3.) A smooth planning in which everyone knows at least one month beforehand who is bartending at which date
4.) Good communication, ideas and input from the bartenders will be discussed in the board and ideas of the board will be turned into reachable goals for the bartenders
5.) Make the common house a good oiled machine so that all activities go well since everyone knows what to do
6.) Create the ideal living room for RA students Why am I the best option for your human resource manager?
1.) I am experienced. I have been working as a leader of animation teams for the last year now and in this position I make sure that the planning is done, all activities are prepared, the team is motivated and knows what to do and last but not least I am the communication link between the team and the camping owner.
2.) I am motivated. I believe that the human resource manager should be the person that is motivated but also has to transfer this motivation and enthusiasm to the rest of the board. That is where I come in, making other people motivated and enthusiastic is what I love to do most.
3.) I am supportive. I will not only support the board of the common house but also you as students. It will be my job to form the communication link between the two and make sure that all ideas, complaints and plans are heard and dealt with.
If you have any questions or suggestions do not hesitate to contact or approach me! Best, Leonie Fierloos
Dear all,
I am Yara Khalil and I am running for the position of Human Resource Manager of our Common House. After months of speculations it looks like the long awaited moment is getting closer and closer. Having a common house is becoming a fact in our near future which in my opinion is a great step forward on our way to making RA the best it can be. However we’re not there yet. It is of great importance that the first board of the common house will set a good and stable base for the future. In order to do so we need a strong, devoted and hard working team and I would love to be a part of that team. I am currently in a team organizing the local four freedom awards and in the yearbook team. This has made me realize how much I like to work in a team with the same goal in mind. Working together on making the common house a great place to work, meet and relax seems like a great way to spend a lot of time and energy. I had a lot of fun bartending in our beloved Barrel last semester. Three things that contributed to this were the Bartender Academy, the contact with the human resource manager of Barrel and the help of the head-‐bartenders. I think it is important to keep paying attention to these concepts. As a human resource manager it is not only about having someone behind the bar at all times. It is equally (or even more) important to make sure everyone knows what is expected of them and enjoys working there. I think being a great human resource manager requires being able to work together in a team, having good communicative skills and being motivated to work hard. I am sure I am capable of being the human resource manager the common house needs.
I hope you feel free to contact me about any questions you might have, face to face or by sending an email to: [email protected]
