Why do you write?

• Consider the purpose of your writing and the audience you are addressing

• In this exercise, you are to provide a description of your OBS experience and persuade your readers to continue with the programme

What are you writing?Your brochure can include, but is not limited, to the

following types of writing• Recounts (descriptive and/or narrative)• Persuasion

Writing Recounts

• Tell ‘what happened’• Generic Structure – Orientation (what/where/when/who)– Record of Events• descriptive/narrative writing • in chronological or reverse chronological

order

Language Features• ‘time phrases/markers’– Adverbs, phrases and conjunctions which

sequences events and structures the writing

• Past tense• Verbs– Action verbs (e.g. slept, ran, swum)– Mental/thinking verbs (e.g. think, feel)
