The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico can be traced back to its indigenous pagan cultures. Rituals celebrating the deaths of ancestors had been observed by these civilizations perhaps for as long as 2,500–3,000 years. The pagan culture sets a base for this holiday.

The Aztec culture had set a date for this holiday and it integrated the celebration of Catrina.

The American culture had integrated their own beliefs into The Day of the Dead like remembering those who died for us in war

The date of the holiday is important because it shows the forceful influence of Catholicism on this holiday by making it on All Saints’ Day.

One method is using religious chants devoted from Catholicism .

Another method is one that utilizes the Cempasúchitl flower that lights the path in the spirit world and attracts unrested souls.

A last method is to use objects of which the deceased soul valued as offerings on an altar to attract the soul
