The edTPA: Session 4: Context for Learning Hunter College School of Education
The learning objectives for this module include:
1. To orient you to the first component of edTPA
2. To introduce you to the elements of the context sec:on
3. To familiarize you with the resources currently available in the HCSOE Blackboard organiza:on for learning more about this por:on of the edTPA submission
Where can you find the Context for Learning section?
What is the focus of the Context section?
1. Each edTPA Planning Task requests informa:on about your instruc:onal and social context
2. The context informa:on is completed with a handbook specific template
3. You provide informa:on about the school and classroom
4. You provide informa:on about the students in your class
What is the structure of Context for Learning?
The Context for learning collects informa:on in three sec:ons:
1. Informa:on about the school
2. Informa:on about the classroom
3. Informa:on the students featured in your submission
Section 1: What information is needed about your school?
1. Type of school
2. Loca:on of the school
3. Special features of your school or classroom
4. Any district, school or coopera:ng teacher requirements or expecta:ons that will affect your teaching
What does a sample context look like?
What is required for the Special Education context for learning?
What special characteristics are present in your school ?
What requirements or expectations exist in your school?
What information is requested about your Special Education placement?
Section 2: What information do you present about your class?
What additional information is requested about special education ?
Addi:onal informa:on requested in the Special Educa:on Context • Explana:on of why the focus learner is not receiving
instruc:on in a group seQng
• District, school or coopera:ng teacher or student teaching requirements or expecta:ons affec:ng planning or instruc:on
• Textbook or instruc:onal program used
• If group instruc:on, informa:on about the size and composi:on of the group
Section 3: What information is required about students in the class?
What additional information is requested in the student chart?
What information is needed about learners receiving special education services?
Context for Learning Summary
There are three sec:ons to be completed:
1. School context
2. Class context
3. Students in the class
Special educa:on provide the same informa:on but the format is organized differently
