The Problem
Question - A 6 disk pack has 600 tracks per surface, 10 sectors per track and 512 bytes per sector.
What is the storage capacity of 1 surface?
What is the storage capacity of disk pack?
How many cylinders does the disk pack have?
Given :
▪1 Surface = 60 tracks
▪1 Track = 10 sector
▪1 Sector = 512 bytes
Storage capacity of 1 surface
▪ 1 track = 10 sectors x 512 bytes
▪ 1 surface = 600 tracks x 5120 bytes
3072000 bytes = 3.072 Megabyte
Storage capacity of disk pack
▪ 10 surfaces = 10 x 3072000 = 30720000 = 30.72 Mb
* Assuming total number of surfaces are 10
Cylinders in the disk pack
(600) Tracks
=
(600) Cylinders
