What is it?A digipak is a style of packaging for a DVD or CD however, I will be creating one for a CD. It is a registered trademark of companies such as: AGI Media and A Meadwestvaco. The packaging tends to folded in gatefold as a book would be designed whilst the outer packaging is conventionally made of card or paper with the inner packaging made of paper. They are used for special editions, EP’s or just CD’s and are fairly delicate along with the thin disc that is placed inside of them. This idea has replaced the old large vinyl discs as they became common in the early 2000’s with artists and record labels.

Structure and foldsDigipaks are designed to fold into a square CD case but can be folded in different days with different numbers of panels. The most common digipaks will have a 4 panel case or a 6 panel case however, I will be creating the 4 panel type. The front panel and back panel are the biggest promoters of the CD which will contain the name of the artist and album as well as a track list which is one of the main features of a CD.The inside of a digipak however, tends to feature more factual information about the album and maybe a small booklet to showcase this or provide lyrics to songs that are on the album. The them here on the inside is often much more subtle than the outside.

Inside the digipakAll over the digipak is a certain theme which either is or is related the artist or the album title. There are details such as: song lyrics as well as the holder for the actual CD disc which will be placed on the right side when opened. We may see the people who put the music together with the artist and anybody else who contributed in the form of a producer or co-writer. There may also be behind the scenes pictures from tours and shows on the inside which influences an audience to go out and buy the CD rather than just downloading each song from the Internet.
