Couleurs de Chine’s major goal is to help Chinese Ethnic Minorities children (mainly girls) to go to school

o English Translation : « Colors of China »

o Charity Association and non-profit organisation

o Founded by a French woman :

Mrs Françoise Grenot-Wang, named “Fang Fang ”

« Fang Fang » (1949 – 2008) :

o 1990 = She started « Couleurs de Chine » as a cultural Association to introduce the culture of Chinese minorities (Miao, Yao and Dong) to the French public.

o 1998 = She worked as an interpreter for « Doctors without Borders » in the Guangxi province. And going from village to village, she was shocked to find no girls at all in any of the schools.

o From 1998 = She decided to stay and live in this remote area and change the main goal of the Association by sponsoring education for ethnic girls.

She was passionate and fiercely proud of their culture, their strength and their history and dedicated her life to them.

community structures in the villages, such as the “Drum Tower” of the

Dong. (on the picture)

Yao Minorities

Population : 2 millions

Famous for their knowledge about medicinal plants

Miao Minorities

Population : 9 millions

The 4th Ethnic Minority Group in China

They have many dialects but do not have any writting

Miao people are known for their intricate embroidery

Dong Minorities

Population : 2.5 millions

The Dong villages can be easily distinguish by its distinctive architecture style ( "Drum Tower)

Sister’s Rice Festival (The oldest Asian Valentine’s Day)

Lusheng Players (Reed Flute : the official

symbol of Miao Culture)

Couleurs de Chine encourages the local population to preserve their traditional costume, music and dance.

o Local families have very low income (average annual income is around 500 rmb)

o The economy is based on terraced rice cultivation and the planting of fir trees.

They raise pigs, sheep and chickens.

o The young girls are expected to help around the houses

Many young girls from these Ethnic Minorities do not get the chance to go to school.

When it is possible for some families to let a child to go to school, the priority is given to boys.

o Our major action is to help girls and children to have access to primary school (6 years) and middle school (3 years).

o The brightest one are supported to go to high school and some have reached university level.

To date, almost 5,500 children sponsored

On the spot : Mrs Marine Vitré lives in Danian Township. She carries out a survey of the needs and informs the Head Office,

in Paris.

A network of volunteers in France, China, Switzerland, Belgium organise numerous

activities to raise funds.
