Getting InvolvedWe believe there are three types of actions parents can take from home in furthering the enhancement of communication and further involvement .

E.V.E. (Expectation, Voice, and Engagement)

Expectations that are communicated by the parent and school can tacitly influence our students to take pride in their work. Taking pride in the good work that they do, encouraging them to study and to work as hard on homework as well as classwork, would encourage consistency and, in-turn, heightened academic success.

Voice refers to active communication between

parents, staff, teachers, and students. It is our hope that issues of a negative sense are not the only reason that parents and teachers come together. It is our common protocol that teachers contact parents/guardians for good updates as well as the less positive. Examples of this proactive contact may be inquiry or conversation concerning:

-Syllabus

-Assignment (objectives, deadline)

-homework, etc.

Engagement may be the most important aspect of these measures to better bridge the gap between home and school work, by getting everyone involved. The engagement of parents/guardians can be displayed by:

-Helping in school activities, plays, concession stands, hall monitoring and other types of volunteering.

-Helping your student with homework, also making sure that it is completed

-Reading the same novel or story that students are studying in class

-Help the student study for upcoming tests or quizzes
