Fall Out Boy- American Beauty/American Psycho

An album for the band, “Fall Out Boy” – the same band who performed the song; “Rat A Tat” which I’m using for my music video.

The album was released January 16, 2015. The album cover for “American Beauty/American Psycho” also

known as “AB/AP” has a young boy stood there, the focus purely on himself whilst half of his face is clean and the other half is painted with the American flag on which represents the “American” in the title of the album.

With half of his face covered with the paint that has the design of the flag upon it and half clean, the clean side of his face can indicate the side which is “beauty” whilst the flag is “psycho”. This can also be noted due to how the title of the album is placed, with beauty on the left and psycho on the right.

But this can also mean the opposite as with how Americans see beauty in their flag, the fact that the boy has the flag painted on his face could be seen as beauty and patriotic. Whilst the side which doesn’t have any paint upon can be seen as not being patriotic as well as not beautiful for such a reason.

Sia- 1000 Forms of Fear

• The album; “1000 Forms of Fear” is the 2014 release by Austrailian singer, Sia. It is her 6th album and the lyrically, it showcases the struggles of dealing with drug addiction and bipolar disorder.

• As per usual, Sia doesn’t show her face on the front of the album, blacking out the face of the person on the front to keep hiding her identity from the rest of the world – though the person on the front of the album does show the hairstyle of the artist, a look that is seen as her signature appearance.

• Looking in depth, her not showing her face could be seen as one of the fears that Sia may have, due to her refusing to show her face in public and let people see her face, this is so she can live her private life in peace and despite her not wanting to be noticed for such – she does get the most attention for never showing her face to the public.

• Not much is seen in the album, except for the aforementioned wig, this gives a sense of the unknown, which again, can be because of the idea of fear and having a fear of the unknown.

Imagine Dragons- Night Vision

• The album “Night Vision” by imagine dragons was released in 2012, consisting of mostly indie rock songs due to that being the bands genre.

• Imagine Dragon album covers tend to have a similar theme running throughout, usually focusing on one person and tends to have a eerie feel to it from the background and the colours used.

• On this album, ranges of peach pinks, purples and blacks are used to depict the smoke about the person who is standing atop some podiums. This smoke can indicate the night, due to the darkness of it compared to how the rest of it seems lighter, or it could mean the vision and the boy is having one which is indicated by the smoke.

• It is quite a bland appearing album, one that is purely eye catching due to the text standing out from the background, being pure white whilst the rest of it seems murky and dark.

• I like the idea of this album, it gives off a sense of the unknown due to the smoke as well as how distant the boy is in the cover, it gives more of a mystery to it all.

Christina Aguilera- Bionic

• Christina Aguilera’s album “Bionic” came out in 2010 and is her sixth album.

• The album depicts that of someone being cybernetic beneath the skin and exterior. As if to say that we’re all machines in a sense and also goes along with the title of the album being ‘Bionic’. It links very well.

• The album is quite plain background wise, but the image of the artist has been interpreted in an alternate way, one that corresponds with the title.

• The lips stand out the most, a contrasting red colour which tends to be a signature look for Aguilera as she often has the brightest coloured lips on most of her album covers.

• She’s made up all neat and tidy, everything is a clean cut, this can indicate perfection which is what one would connect to the idea of a bionic person which is quite a neat idea to say the least.

• This design is fairly unique and seems very comic book like with the drawn in mechanics. It’s one I do like the looks of.
