Page 5: Calisphere: Broadening Access through DPLA

As a Calisphere contributor

CDL’s plan of action is to:

• Coordinate with DPLA to harvest the Calisphere metadata and expose through DPLA

• Expose collections currently in Calisphere in early 2015

• Prospectively, expose any new collections contributed to Calisphere to DPLA

• Metadata will be searchable and viewable in DPLA with a Creative Commons Public Domain Dedication (CC0)

What can you expect?

• No action is required!

• Timing

• Open public access

Current processes

• Mostly cultural heritage resources (images, text, archival finding

• Contribute digital resources in METS (Metadata Encoding &

Transcription Standard) as digital objects

• Publish metadata for the METS digital objects in Calisphere

• Share metadata with DPLA

6

Page 7: Calisphere: Broadening Access through DPLA

• Contribute metadata records for harvesting by CDL

• Publish metadata in Calisphere

• Share metadata with DPLA

• Collaborate with San Francisco Public Library, Los

Angeles Public Library and UC Libraries to test and

implement harvesting approach
