Level 5 Leader
Balancing personal humility with professional will
Builds enduring greatness through a paradoxical combination of the two
30
Level 5 Leader
Finding of 5 year research by Jim Collins and his team:
Level I : Make productive contribution through knowledge, skill, talent and good work habit
Level II : Contributes to achievement of group objectives and works efficiently with teams
Level III: Organises people and resources towards effective and efficient pursuit of predetermined objectives
Level IV: Catalyses commitment through rigorous pursuit of a clear and compelling vision; stimulates group to high performance standard

Level 1 Highly Capable Individual

Effective Leader
Level 5 Leader
= Humility + Will
The Two Sides of Level 5Professional Will
Creates superb results, a clear catalyst in the transition from good to great
Demonstrates an unwavering resolve to do whatever must be done to produce the best long-term results, no matter how difficult.
Sets the standard of building an enduring great company; will settle for nothing less.
Looks in the mirror, not out the window, to apportion responsibility for poor results.
35
The Second SidePersonal Humility
Demonstrates a compelling modesty, shunning public adulation; never boastful.
Acts with quiet, calm determination; relies principally on inspired standards, not inspiring charisma, to motivate
Channels ambition into the company, not the self; sets up successors for even greater success in the next generation.
Looks out of window, not in the mirror, to apportion credit for the success of the company.

From cultural heritage ( history) “Vidya dadati vinyam, vinyat yati patratam I Patratat vad dhanam aapnoti Dhanat dharmah tatah sukhaam II”

for the humble minded…” Surah 2.45

Notice how the geese fly on their long flight of migration …
38
Lets learn from Mother Nature…Geese are unique as a team. The team behaves as a cohesive whole with a common goal of reaching a particular destination in mind. - Team members help each other since they collectively achieve much more than they can alone.

40
The lessons we can learnPeople who share a common direction and sense of
community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
If we have as much sense as a Geese we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
If one is tired or sick, another will stay back, for nursing and moral support ,till integrated with the team.
41
The lessons we can learn
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with Geese, people are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, talents or resources.
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of other) is the quality of honking we seek.
42
The lessons we can learnIf we have as much sense as Geese, we
will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.
Now ! What do you say to that!!!
