Towson’s roof is an aluminum double lock standing seam panel, designed to achieve even the most complicated, visionary design. The roof has eco-friendly qualities and economic benefits that made this material a mainstream in construction for decades.

ADVANTAGES1. Lightweight2. Durable3. Non-corrosive

DISADVANTAGES1. It is not the most affordable roofing option2. Can be quite noisy in the event of heavy rain

4. Resilient - combines strength with flexibility5. 100% recycable6. Sustinable and environmentally friendly.

3. If they are not properly installed with fasteners that allow the metal to expand and contract, the panels may loosen

REASON OF CHOICE Metal roofing is 100% recycable and its proven to last aorund 50 years. It is easy to match to any building or even home and give it a beautiful style. Maintaining aluminium roofs are also easy as it can be repainted but will likely never need to be replaced. It has very low embodied energy.

REASON OF CHOICE This system has a very wide range of profiles for surface design and it can suit everyones needs easily. It can be even custom designed. These panels also provide major benefits in the thermal performance, like the rainscreen and sunscreen components. The layout of the panels can be designed in a random, but functional pattern to create an attractive facade design, while increasing the energy efficiency of the building.

The glass prisms creates an open, transparent facade, skin to an open doll house, and addresses the new open space so that all the different activities of the centre are visible and displayed. The timber ‘U’ form embraces the prismatic environmental atrium and orient both towards the south and the new litlle park.

This ‘solid’ sections of this timber form are made of automated louver systems that filter and control sunlight and view.

Operable LouversMATERIALSLow VOC FinishesLow Formaldehyde Furniture

ADVANTAGES1. A high performance solution for sun control2. Low maintenance3. Special shaped design / full system possible3. Easy to install4. Effective form of reducing heat gain 5. Easily Operated

DISADVANTAGES1. Expensive to install2. SIgnificant security risk if installed without extra measures

LOUVERS SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

REASON OF CHOICE Excellent solution for sun control, perfectly suited for uses on almost any building especially in tropical countries like in Malaysia.

PRECEDENT STUDIES METAL COMPOSITE CONCRETE STRUCTURE FLOOR SYSTEMV I L L A I S O L A B E L L A _ M O S A T E R R A C E S

Architect : Tenback de Groof ArchitectureLocation : Nuenen, NetherlandsManufacturer : MosaDesigner : Mosa Design Team Manutacturer for the floor systems : Hambro Structural Products

This beautiful house has the exterior flooring by Mosa XT, it can create an optically seamless transition from interior to exterior. Mosa XT tiles can be incorporated into all conventional floor systems. The Hambro floor system combines composite joists wih poured concrete developing a hybrid concrete / steel T-beam running in one direction and an integrated, continuous slab in the opposite direction.

FLOOR SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

Welded Wire mesh covered over top chord to form catenary

Concrete poured in place

Composite Steel Deck

Joist with bearing shoe

ADVANTAGES1. Good Fire Resistance2. Good Acoustical3. Cost Savings3. Ease of Installation4. Lightweight concrete is used resulting in reduced dead weight

DISADVANTAGES1. Easily brittle2. Uncertainty of final strength3. Larger Column Section3. Shrinkage

REASON OF CHOICE Composite floor system is considered by many to be the highest quality type of construction. The con-crete together with the steel acts to create a stiffer, lighter and less expensive structure. This makes it so much easier to be choosen.

PRECEDENT STUDIES STEEL FRAME STRUCTURES SYSTEMA S P E N A R T M U S E U M

Architect : Shigeru Ban ArchitectsLocation : Aspen, USAManufacturer : Southwest Steel Construction LTD

Although the facade and roof of this building is mostly made from wood, the structural system is fully steel frame construction. Most steel construction is done with a type of steel called mild steel. Mild steel is a material that is immensely strong.

ADVANTAGES1. Super-Quick to build at site2. Flexible - Good at resisting dynamic forces such as wind or earthquake forces.3. Wide range of ready-made structural sections3. Can be made to take any kind of shape4. Wide range of joining methods

DISADVANTAGES1. They lose strength at high temperature2. Susceptible to fire3. They are prone to corrosion in humid or marine environments

STRUCTURAL SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

REASON OF CHOICE Steel frame structure is of great advantage to buildings. Has alot of important feature, it can bend without cracking, it can be used to make different types of design and it would not break easily. However, steel quickly loses its strength in a fire. Therefore, steel in buildings must be protected from fire or very high tem-perature. It can be done by wrapping it with boards or spray-on material called fire protection.

This report is an assignment that is aligned with the Studio Design Project, it is about analyising precedent studies and establishment of the structural systems of our design to ensure that the design has logical and workable construction systems. The systems are such as roof system, wall system, flooring system and structural system. These construction sys-tems are used to assist for the design proposal of Community Library that is located in Jalan Haji Salleh, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. The application of materials, construction technique and structural design are essential elements in designing a successful Community Library for the community of Sentul.

So the new community library should be an interesting and a welcoming place for the community of Sentul.
