Based on the Ted Talk byAmy Cuddy

Ever faced this ?

OR THIS ?

OR THIS ?

These are the Non-verbal BehaviorsOr Body

Language.

What is yourBody Language

communicating ?

We make sweepingjudgements and

inferences from the Body Language of

people .

Who do we hire?

Who do we Date?

But…What about our self ?

We are also influenced by our non-verbals.

They influence our Thoughts,

Feelings and our

Physiology.

What are these nonverbals we are

talking about?

These are Non-

verbal expressions ofPower

andDominan

ce.

In the AnimalKingdom,

they are aboutexpanding

or stretchingout.

Humans dothe same thing...

When we have power chronically, and also when

we are feeling powerful in the moment,

we open up !

When powerless,We wrap ourselves up.

We always complementthe other’s Non-verbals.

Our nonverbals governhow other people think

and feel about us.

BUT,,,

Do our nonverbalsgovern how we think

and feel about Ourselves ?

He is Smiling

He mustbe feeling happy.

He is Smiling too.!

He seems happy too.!

Similarly, when you pretend tobe powerful,

you feel powerful too.

So it is true that ourbody changes our mind i.e.

our Thoughts, Feelings and in this case our

Hormones.

On the hormonal level, two hormones govern whether we feelpowerful or not.

They are-1.Testosterone- Dominance hormone2.Cortisol- Stress hormone

Powerful v/s Powerless

Powerful people are more Assertive, Confident and

Optimistic. They can think abstractly

and take risks.

Powerful people havehigher testosterone levelsand lower cortisol levels.

An experiment was done in which some people were asked to power pose.

Following results were found-

Power Posing for fewMinutes can change ourLife in significant ways.

So the next time yougo for a Job Interview or any

Social threat situation:

Fake it ,till you make it!

More importantly,

Fake it,Till you BECOME it.

Try POWER POSING.

And SPREAD the Science.

Recap 1. Our nonverbals govern how peoplethink and feel about us but it is alsotrue that our nonverbals govern howwe think and feel about ourselves.2. Power posing for few minutes can give fruitful outcomes.3. Fake it till you become it.
