The Mobile Life
• “A recent survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project predicts that by the year 2020, most people across the world will be using a mobile device as their primary means for connecting to the Internet.” (1)
Growth of Technology Advancements Fuels Adoption
• Mobile applications• Wireless communications• Networking: speed (3G and 4G standards)
Game changer: iPhone and Apple Apps
• “In mid-2008, Apple launched the App Store for the Apple iPhone, and less than six months later, more than 10,000 such applications were offered.”
• Android’s Market, Blackberry’s App World, Nokia’s Ovi Store soon follow with their own application marketplaces.
• Gaming moves to mobile appliances.
Hardware as the Enabler
• Computers: netbooks, tablet PCs• Cellphones and smartphones: various data
plans (SMS, Internet). Features: physical configurations, multimedia capture, GPS, and gaming
• Mobile Internet devices (MIDs)• Mobile broadband devices : broadband cards,
portable hotspots (Sprint’s MIFI)
Hardware as the Enabler
• Portable scanners or Evernote• Handheld projector (Pico Projector)• Storage: flash drives, external portable hard
drives, storage in the cloud (Dropbox or Gmail/Yahoo) , SD Flash Card
• Portable video (FLIP Mino, iPod Nano)

accomplish?• Once you are aware of your requirements,
then you can look for technology to fulfill your needs.
• One device won’t cover all requirements.• Nothing is static. Technology advancements
are daily. • Find a tech buddy.• Play, experiment.
