The verb AVOIR is a very important verb in French. It is used to talk about what

we have (got)/ haven’t (got) ....

If you are serious about learning French then you MUST learn the present tense of

this verb ‘parrot fashion’, in the affirmative and negative form.

So keep practising and repeating j’ai, tu as, il... and je n’ai pas, tu n’as pas, il...

etc. until you are able to say it without having to pause (aim for under 6 seconds).

.... as well as expressing the past (level 2 of this course).

J’ai 2 enfants – I’ve got 2 kids

Il a une voiture – He has (got) a car

Level 1

And remember to use ‘pas de’ to express ‘haven’t got any’

Je n’ai pas d’enfant – I don’t have (any) kids NOT je n’ai pas des enfants

Il n’a pas de voiture – He hasn’t got a car NOT il n’a pas une voiture
