• The fog was published with the group of poems known as the Chicago poems. These poems were published recently after a new magazine, Poetry: a magazine of verse, was published. This created an influx of poets in the Chicago area
• At this time cities were rapidly expanding, similar to the way that fog can rapidly roll over a town.
• Additionally the factories from the industrial revolution produced fog like pollution.

THE RED WH EELBARR OWBY: W I LL I A M CA R LO S W ILL IA M S
• The Red Wheelbarrow is a great example of the imagist style. The poem describes an exact visual image that makes a poetic statement.
• Also, similar to many other poems in the imagist movement, this poem uses free verse.
• It also portrays the simplistic life in rural areas that were slowly disappearing as the industrial revolution took over America.
