I normally do not go in Supermarkets because Ilike to support small family run local stores. For this assignment I went in three dierent supermarkets that we have in our area.

INSIGHTS:From outside rst impression: not very welcoming. The front facing windows which could serve as display area were jammed packed with goods on the rack blocking inside view.

There were no sign showing which line is for what productthus it was prettey annoing to go through entire store to nd one product that you need.

The sales person were not visible to ask for assitance.

Over jammed spaces with the same product .This was the case in all the stores and their diernt oors.

On the sales they have value packs which the expiry datesare within next 2 months : some value packs huh!!

The Supermarkets are supposed to be cheaper than thesmall stores but the prices here were same as my nextdoor local convenience store.

Snail phase CHECKOUT LINES .

You have CCTV why don’t you keep your eyes on yourstas as well???

HIDDEN OPPORTUNITIES:

With such large area they all have they can accomodatemore kind of product.

Having Food court / vendors : we all know thatsmell of rich coee and cookies works like magnet.

In Nepal people still believe that that department stores areexpenisive. By selling the goods in less than the maximum retail price they can target more low income group people. That makes the major mass of the population.

What I like about small local stores are they are more welcoming and we go there often because we likethe fact that they know us thus the sense of belonging.By teaching the sales assitants to be helpfull I think thesestores will be able to maintain regular costomers.
