• Eligibility Dates • Kindergarten: 5 years old by September 1, 2017
• Transitional Kindergarten: 5 years old between
September 2-December 2, 2017
• Expanded Transitional Kinder: 5 years old between
December 3, 2016-March 2018
• First Grade: 6 years old on or before
September 1, 2017

• Three Phases
• A student who registers during any phase is pre-enrolled for
2017-18 and may not participate in any other phase
1. Priority Phase, October 31-November 18
2. Application for First Lottery, January 12-February 3
3. Application for Second Lottery, April 3-7

• Siblings of students enrolled at a school of choice:
brothers/sisters reside together, attend school together
• Willard 5th graders transitioning to 6th for International
Baccalaureate at Blair (do not live in attendance area)
• Dual Language Immersion Pre-K, 5th and 8th graders
continuing in DLIP, transitioning to next grade
• Registration takes place at the school

• Must be full-time monthly employees
• Employee spots not taken are added to second lottery

Marshall Fundamental School 6-12
San Rafael Dual Language Immersion Program Spanish Dual
Field Dual Language Immersion Program Mandarin Chinese
Jackson Magnet Dual Language Academy and Jefferson
have attendance boundaries and are schools of residence,
but their Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs are
only via Open Enrollment with “neighborhood preference”

• Neighborhood Preference
• Prescribed preference zones (see School Locator)
• 50% of projected seats are set aside for
students living in these attendance zones
• Students who qualify go through lottery first
for x number of seats
• If there are more students than seats set aside,
then student goes through the regular lottery
• Permit school/program must be #1 choice on
application

• Notifications & Registration
• Placement notification will be posted online and mailed
following each of the two lotteries
• To affirm placement, registration happens at the
school accepted to with all required documents
• Seat is forfeited if not registered on time
• Once registered—pre-enrolled—no other
applications can be submitted
• PUSD considers US Mail not returned to the
District as notification delivered

• Waitlist for Unfilled Seats
• Following the second lottery only, for students not selected
for any of their choices
• Name will be added to waitlist for their first choice
• If not all second lottery students register, seats will be
offered to first, then subsequent students on list
• Families will be notified by phone; two attempts to call
• If email provided, one email will be sent

• Applications of Interest for Signature Programs April 3-7
• Open Enrollment-School Choice is for Pasadena, Altadena,
Sierra Madre, and portion of San Gabriel (County) residents
• Non-resident students offered enrollment once PUSD
students are placed
• Non-residents may also apply for schools with unfilled seats
beginning May 8, 2017
• Interdistrict permits based on Board Policy 5117
