West side Story

• On 28th December I went to see a production of Leonard Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story’ at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.

• Based on Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet it tells the story of two gangs at war with one another – The Sharks and The Jets. But, when two people from the different gangs fall in love it results in tragic consequences.

• In my opinion, I thought it was amazing and everything about the show was faultless as the production was very big and simplistic. Also, the choreography was outstanding and made a massive impact on the show. Also, the orchestrations was brilliant and as a result of this it made me have Goosebumps.

• Overall I would rate ‘West Side Story’ 10/10 because the show was faultless; the dancing was super and overall everything about it was fantastic and I would certainly love to see the show again once more.

•• WELL DONE ‘WEST SIDE STORY’!

Oliver!

On 30th December I went to the Sheffield Crucible to see a production of Lionel Bart’s ‘Oliver!’

Based on the Charles Dickens novel it tells the story of a young boy called Oliver Twist who runs away from a workhouse to London to seek his fortune. Along the way he meets the Artful Dodger, Nancy, Fagin and the possibly the scariest person known to man (Bill Sykes) but with the help of these people – can Oliver escape the life he originally had and live happily ever after?

In my opinion, the production of this show was amazing. Everything was so slick and the cast were brilliant. I loved every song in it and even though I thought the guy who played the Artful Dodger struggled a bit that is me being very picky.

Overall I would rate ‘Oliver’ 10/10 as the overall production was sublime; the acting was at a high standard and it was truly amazing!

WELL DONE ‘OLIVER!’!

Dreamboats and petticoats

On 18th January I went to see a production of “Dreamboats and Petticoats” at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield.

Set in the late 1950’s/ early 60’s it tells the story of a young boy called Bobby who enters a song writing competition along with the help of Laura, a young and geeky 16 year old who can really bang out some tunes. However, with love on their mind, can Bobby and Laura succeed and get their song in the charts?

In my opinion I loved the show. It was full of life and energy and the actors worked there socks off. Also, the seats were amazing and really worth it. However, comparing it to last time, I wasn’t as impressed when I saw the first time round but that’s me being very picky.

Overall, I would rate “Dreamboats and Petticoats” 8/10 because it was really good but the production wasn’t as big and I wasn’t as impressed as I was when I saw it in 2012. But it was really good.

WELL DONE “DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS”!
