DESCRIPTION
The High Holidays consist of Rosh Hashonah (Head of the Year: 9/08-9/10) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement: 9/17-9/10). The 10 Days between the two holidays are called “The Days of Awe.” Jewish people apologize to anyone whom they may have offended and look within inward to be accepted into the Book of Life, which closes at the end of Yom Kippur. The High Holidays are the most important Holy days in the Jewish calendar, after the Sabbath. THE ART OF THE HIGH HOLIDAYS is a chronological and geographic overview of visual art objects, synagogues, and their symbolism related to these two observances.
