Agosto 2010: nelle spiagge della costa toscana viene introdotto un braccialetto che permette ai bambini di essere identificati e ritrovati in caso di smarrimento. I

genitori sono così liberi di dedicarsi ai loro iPod, iPad, laptop e alle immancabili riviste di gossip, tanto i figli saranno loro recapitati da bagnini e forze dell’ordine. Salvo poi perderli nuovamente ai giardini pubblici o per strada, a meno di non dotarli di braccialetti permanenti o tatuaggi indelebili. Il senso di responsabilità è importante, specie quando si affrontano situazioni potenzialmente pericolose. Nelle gare trail queste situazioni accadono spesso: la nebbia, i temporali, la neve, possono rendere rischioso uno sport che deve essere basato proprio sul senso di responsabilità. L’organizzazione è obbligata a fare il massimo per garantire la sicurezza in gara, ma il primo impegno deve essere quello del partecipante. Iscriversi ad un raid da oltre 100 km non avendo mai corso un trail, o ad una ultra in montagna non avendo mai visto una roccia, non è un atteggiamento responsabile. A fine novembre molti organizzatori di trail italiani si ritroveranno in Liguria per discutere alcuni aspetti fondamentali di questo sport, primo fra tutti proprio quello della sicurezza. Scambiare opinioni, confrontarsi, trovare delle linee guida comuni: sarà questo l’obiettivo dell’incontro, che speriamo possa portare i responsabili delle manifestazioni a lavorare con una professionalità sempre maggiore. Senza però legare troppi braccialetti ai polsi dei trailer: l’esperienza si acquisisce anche perdendosi ogni tanto.

Lo sguardo profondo, gli occhi scurissimi e vivi che sembrano “trapassarti”. È stata questa la mia prima impressione nell’incontrare Dawa Sherpa all’Expo di Chamonix. Non mi capacito

ancora di come abbia fatto a firmare autografi per tre giorni di seguito, posare per le foto con tutti, stringere mani e sorridere in continuazione, mai infastidito, e sempre con una serenità da far invidia. Penso per un attimo alla sua vita e la paragono a quella dei nostri atleti, soprattutto quelli militari. Penso alle condizioni di vita nel suo paese e alla vita facile che abbiamo qui. Penso al suo sorriso mentre parla con i bambini e alle facce dei nostri calciatori, quando i bambini chiedono loro gli autografi.

Mi avvicino per fargli una foto, in mezzo a tutta la gente, e per un attimo si gira verso di me, incrocia il mio sguardo e mi sorride. La sensazione, difficile da spiegare, è che il suo sguardo, in quell’istante, mi “legga dentro”. Non ho il coraggio di avvicinarmi, gli sorrido e vengo via.

Mi torna in mente una scena di parecchi anni fa, quando a Firenze, per caso, per strada, incontrai Michail Gorbaciov, ex capo del Cremlino, l’uomo della Glasnost e della Perestrojka, per intenderci. Spontaneamente gli urlai: “Bravo!” e cominciai ad applaudirlo. Lui si fermò proprio davanti a me, mi fissò negli occhi, mise la mano destra sul cuore e si inchinò. Quello sguardo e quel gesto mi arrivarono dritti al cuore e quella scena e quelle sensazioni hanno tardato ad abbandonarmi. Dawa Sherpa non è un personaggio politico, “corre e basta”. Ma anche lui, al pari di Gorbaciov, ha fatto la storia. La storia del trail, ma pur sempre di storia si tratta.
