While you were enjoying a beautiful summer, the LRC staff were busy preparing for another school year. We’ve been ordering new books, shifting the collection to make room for the new materials, and buying furniture.

Why new furniture? The LRC will soon have twelve computers available for students to use for research, typing papers, checking email, and exploring the internet. Six of the new computers have already arrived if you are curious about them. All we have Office 2007 installed on them as well as other applications related to various classes. About two weeks ago, the new computer tables and chairs were delivered. Some students have already tried out the new furniture and everyone is finding the chairs comfortable.

Along with the new books we’ve been adding to the collection, the LRC has also added DVD’s. So far we’re looking for Oscar winners and titles from the American Film Institutes Top 100 Movies lists. There are also some documentaries and other programs that have been aired on channels like the History Channel and Discovery. The DVD’s can be checked out for three days by staff, faculty, or BHE students.

Welcome back!

Need to take a test? The Independent Learning Center is open for business. Please note that BHE’’s ILC hours are a bit different than the Quad Cities campus. If you are coming in to take a test for Study Unlimited, a make-up test, or anything else, you will need to show a photo ID. There is a new nursing test that has replaced the NET test and needs to be scheduled outside of regular ILC hours due to the length of the test. If you have any questions regarding the ILC, stop at the circulation desk and ask for LaVon Franklin.
