The Learner Charter

The Pre-school Learning Alliance aims to provide high quality training and assessment enabling learners to gain qualifications appropriate to their roles in early years settings.

This charter describes what we provide to learners and the Alliance’s expectations of them.

Before study

Before you become a learner we aim to provide:

clear information about the charity, the range of training available and the achievements of our learners;

information advice and guidance about choosing the right training programme;

information about how to enrol and costs, fees, loans available and remissions (reductions);

information about support for study and where personal support is needed;

the name, contact address and telephone number of the Course Manager responsible.

On enrolmentWhen you become a learner we aim to provide:

information about the syllabus, teaching and learning methods, work placements, assessment methods and certification of your qualification or course;

the opportunity to develop an individual learning plan to support your studies;

information on start and finish dates, timing and venue;

information on refreshment facilities and the availability of childcare;

information about how and when to pay fees;

details of our equality policy; and details of our complaints and appeals

procedures.

During studyWhile you are on in training, we aim to provide:

a supportive and caring environment in which you can learn;

a well-managed course which meets your needs;

a high standard of teaching and assessment;

tutorial time to review your progress and discuss any learning problems;

classes and tutorials which start and end on time;

clear assessment planning so that you can meet your deadlines

clear and prompt feedback to help you understand the expectations of your qualification;

support to find a suitable work placement; and

information about study support.

At the end of studyTowards the end of the course, we will provide:

information about further training and qualifications; and

guidance about options for your career.

As a learner we expect you to: Demonstrate self-respect and respect for others; Show empathy for others; Support your tutor, assessor and fellow learners in maintaining the safety and

well-being of each other; Listen while others are speaking and not talk while others are speaking; Consider other learner’s points of view and opinions which may differ from your

own; Be committed to your studies, in class, in independent study and in the

workplace; Act with honesty and integrity as a learner; Show respect for property and the environment. Disclose, confidentially, any disability or special need so that we can meet your

learning needs; Attend classes and work placements punctually and regularly; Complete assignments to planned and agreed deadlines; and Ask for help if you need it.
