WHAT IS HOMELESSNESS?WHAT IS HOMELESSNESS?

Homelessness is when a person is:

ｷ Currently living on the streetｷ Living in crisis or refuge accommodationｷ Living in temporary arrangements without security of tenure-for example, moving between the residence of friends or relatives, living in squats, caravans or improvised dwellings, or living in boarding housesｷ Living in unsafe family circumstances-for example, families in which child abuse or domestic violence is a threat or has occurred ｷ Living on very low incomes and facing extraordinary expenses or personal crisis.

Within the movie we witnessed many homeless people, this issue is also reflected in Australia where people are left with no shelter, food or supplies. Homelessness in Australia is a major issue -

• 58% were Male• 36% were between the age of 12 - 24• 10% were under the age of 12• 8.5% were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders• 23% were staying in boarding houses• 49% were staying with friends and relatives• 14% were sleeping rough• 14% were staying in services funded through the

The Mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia is to deepen the Catholic faith of its members - to go out into our nation to heighten the awareness of Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Church has formed organizations to which look at assisting fellow Australians in improving social justice issues. There are organization setup all over Australia that are run by volunteers.

homlessness?• Our school raises funds through

Mission Australia, St Vincent De Paul, the Red Cross and many other organisations.

• Once a year a number of students assist with the St Vincent De Paul door knock appeal.

• We believe the Government should be offering more support and shelter towards these people and also putting more money towards this important issue.

• We believe that each Australian needs to take a look at their own lives and appreciate the warmth of a home. We think that each person needs to think of ways they can contribute to making homelessness history.

• If we each work together every individual will have a home and be able to feel safe and secure therefore creating a better environment for all people to live together as one.

• We believe the Government should be offering more support and shelter towards these people and also putting more money towards this important issue.
