The VLEE is:

an interactive, open access, web portal

a tool for research and teaching of Earthquake Engineering

a virtual space for communication, discussion and collaboration

Page 3: Presentation Vlee

The VLEE contains:

• Virtual Experiments (VE)– Detailed instructions to perform the experiments

• Design Tools (DT)– A set of structural design programs, required to

perform virtual experiments on-line

• Simulation Tools (ST)– A set of structural analysis programs, required to

perform virtual experiments on-line

Page 4: Presentation Vlee

VLEE main features:

• Users can perform complex Virtual Experiments without direct use of complex simulation software

• Interactive learning of Earthquake Engineering using VE, DT, ST

• Discussion forums, Glossary and Contents• Easy incorporation of new VEs, DTs, STs

VLEE Technology• Distributed

computing

• OpenSees

• Web 2.0

VLEE operation:

The user:

• Selects a EV• Uses DT and/or ST to perform the VE• Analizes the results and reach conclusions• Shares the results, observations and

conclusions with other VLEE users

Expected outcomes

• Students share, discuss and collaborate • Instructors use the VLEE as a course resource

• Researchers use the VLEE as a research tool
